CBD Flower and Alcohol Recovery

CBD flower has a very long history world-wide but since it was classified as cannabis and thus marijuana, most hold it had arms-length. During World War II, because they needed hemp for manufacturing purposes, they legalized it. After the war, they claimed it was illegal. Then, scientists and law makers, alike figured out that hemp is cannabis, but it is not marijuana. They also figured out that it has very valuable health benefits from high percentage of CBD and very little THC.

CBD Flower Corrects Health Imbalances

This has left us behind the 8-ball on the knowledge of it all. CBD is an amazing natural resource for a variety of health imbalances. Now that all things hemp are legal, except high THC, all things CBD are rising like a new star.

The Infusion of it All

One of the recent things which has surfaced is that of infusing different products with CBD to double up on the healing and the effects. Alcohol makers have joined in the “infusion business.” CBD-infused shots, beers, and other alcoholic beverages are some of the products in the marketplace.

CBD Flower and Alcohol Interact

Alcohol generally puts one in overdrive without inhibitions. It may also promote feelings of relaxation.  CBD relaxes and calm as well. So the question is about the safety of combining alcohol and CBD.

A study of 72 people showed that taking 25 – 75 mg of CBD daily for 30 days reduced anxiety and improved sleep. The answer is that taking alcohol and CBD together could amplify the effects of increased sleepiness and sedation.

One small study researched the effects of 200 mg of CBD with 1 gram of alcohol for every 2.2 pounds of body weight.  Not all reactions were the same. Observations showed that combining alcohol with CBD caused significant impairments in motor performance as well as losing perception of time. The participants who did not take alcohol with the CBD did not experience these effects.

Unfortunately, there is too little research on the health effects of taking CBD with alcohol to make definitive conclusions.

CBD Prevention of Cell Damage and Disease

Sufficient research has been done that show CBD may protect against the negative effects of alcohol on the body and mind.  It is well-documented that excessive alcohol consumption will damage many different types of cells in the body. This increases the possibility of inflammation and chronic diseases such as liver disease, pancreatitis, and certain types of cancer.

There are observations that CBD may disrupt cell damage by 49% caused by alcohol even when applied to the skin or by taking sublingual drops.  In animal studies, CBD has shown to engage in tissue regeneration caused by alcohol consumption.

May Reduce Blood Alcohol Levels

Blood alcohol concentration (BAC), a measure of the amount of alcohol in your blood, correlates with the amount of motor control and cognitive function which an individual has or does not have.

Again, there is not enough research yet but one small study of 10 people found that it if an individual took 200 mg (which is a very large dose) of CBD with the alcohol then the BAC is significantly lower than if they took the same amount of alcohol with a placebo.

Benefits of CBD Flower for Alcohol Addiction

Some animal studies show that CBD reduces symptoms of alcohol addiction and withdrawal. In fact, one recent study looked at the effects of CBD in alcohol-addicted rats. It found that CBD prevented relapse and decreased motivation to consume alcohol.

Animal studies show that CBD may reduce liver and brain-cell damage caused by alcohol. It may also help decrease blood alcohol levels and even help treat alcohol use disorder, though more research is needed.  There is currently not enough research to determine the effects of mixing CBD and alcohol.

The bottom line is that CBD acts as an inhibitor to control any number of addictive behaviors for alcohol or any number of drugs because it acts as an agonist to certain receptors that regulate compulsive behaviors.
