Phytocannabinoids

Are you ready for an English lesson? I think I heard “yes”, so here goes. The prefix, “phyto”, means plant \’\’and when added to the root word “cannabinoids” it creates the word “phytocannabinoids,” – \’\’and we have a winner!  Phytocannabinoids are compounds found in the cannabis plant. THC \’\’and CBD are not only the most popular ones but are the ones which scientists study more than any of the other 100 occurring in the cannabis plant.  Phytocannabinoids are mostly found in the unseeded flower buds of the female plants.

Simplifying Cannabinoids

Now since we just had an English lesson \’\’and a chemical discussion, lets dial it down a notch. Phytocannabinoids \’\’and cannabinoids can be used interchangeably so let’s drop one syllable.  Cannabinoids are compounds that occur naturally in the cannabis plant covering both the psychoactive \’\’and the non-psychoactive compounds in the cannabis plant.

  • Cannabinol is CBN \’\’and it is the first cannabinoid that was discovered by scientists. CBN is produced when THC is heated to oxygen.
  • Cannabigerol is CBG \’\’and it is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. The cannabis plant has less than 1% of CBG so it is a minor one.
  • Cannabidiol is CBD \’\’and is also one of the naturally occurring compounds in the cannabis plant. CBD is a cannabinoid that is not psychoactive but it is the other most commonly found compound in the cannabis plant.
  • Tetrahydrocannabinol is THC \’\’and is the psychoactive cannabinoid in the cannabis plant also known as marijuana.

Abbreviating Cannabinoids

Time to dial the conversation down to abbreviations so it is easier to focus on what all these cannabinoids are about, because they are about a lot.

Everything Else about CBN

CBN is a mildly psychoactive cannabinoid, with the emphasize on “mildly”, because it is created when THC oxidizes.  When an individual suffers from insomnia, CBN is used effectively as a sleep aid \’\’and as well as a sedative. CBN may help regulate the immune system for those with immune deficiency disorders. This cannabinoid also relieves pain \’\’and inflammation caused in both Crohn’s disease \’\’and all types of arthritis.

Everything Else about CBG

The cannabiniod classified as an antibacterial is CBG. It is effective to slow bacterial growth. The second benefit of CBG is how it reduces inflammation \’\’and inhibits cell growth in malignant tumors.  The third benefit of CBG is promoting bone growth.

Everything Else about THC

THC is the cannabinoid responsible for a majority of marijuana’s psychological effects. It attaches to the cannabinoid receptors in the brain \’\’and activates them.  These are the receptors that affect a person’s thinking, pleasure, coordination, \’\’and time perception.  CBD is the main non-psychoactive cannabinoid in the cannabis plant \’\’and, in fact, can partially block a degree of the “high” associated with THC.

Everything Else about CBD

CBD is the cannabinoid type that is shining brightly for hundreds of people suffering from chronic pain, insomnia \’\’and many types of inflammation. The FDA approved a medication with CBD called Epidiolex which is the treatment of two different types of epilepsy.  But beyond this, a large percentage of people are realizing relief from pain, insomnia, anxiety as they use CBD in a capsule, drops, lotions \’\’and many more delivery methods.

In Conclusion

The majority who are seeking non-pharmaceutical solutions for any number of conditions resulting in pain, anxiety, inflammation, etc have turned to the cannabinoid known as CBD.  By the day, more \’\’and more sufferers turn to what works \’\’and what provides a better quality of life for them.

Sharon has been writing her heart out since she was 10 years of age when she wrote up a story about a 3,000 acre forest fire she and her family witnessed. In 1995 when she found herself divorced with a 3-year-old daughter, Ruth, she decided to try writing for money. She carved a niche in the Continuing Education market and for the next 20 plus years she wrote courses for C.E. providers all over the United States. Blogging is now her new love. Particularly suited to writing about CBD because for two years she was crippled with osteoarthritis in her ankles and feet until someone introduced her to CBD. Today she walks and bikes because of this natural compound of CBD.
