States Hemp Cultivation – Looking at New Mexico
By 2019 when hemp because legal in New Mexico, 1.2 million started plants were sold to courageous farmers. The plan for coming years is in the 6 million to 10 million starter plants. The New Mexico Department of Agriculture issued more than 400 hemp cultivation licenses in 2019 which at best exceeded expectations.

States Hemp Cultivation – Eyes on Nevada
Nevada dives into CBD hemp growing like a man with a mission. Nevada law allows for the sale of Hemp-CBD products. However, not every category of Hemp-CBD products is sold legally in the state. Selling CBD-infused foods \’\’and dietary supplements comes under the category of “illegal” throughout the state. Then there are other products like smokable hemp which is not authorized nor prohibited.
The states hemp cultivation for Nevada says in Chapter 557 of the Nevada Revised Statutes (“NRS”) legalized the sale of Hemp-CBD products “intended for human consumption,” \’\’and for topical application to the skin or hair of a human.
“Cultivation” Last 
In 2018, Congress passed the Farm Bill \’\’and legalized states hemp cultivation, creating a pathway to remove cannabis from Schedule 1. The Farm Bill defined hemp as cannabis that contains less than 0.3% THC by weight \’\’and marijuana as cannabis with more than 0.3%.
Hemp-derived CBD was thus removed from its Schedule 1 designation, but CBD derived from the federally illegal marijuana plant is still considered federally illegal, too. Hemp is considered an agricultural commodity, but must be produced \’\’and sold under specific federal regulations, which were not finalized when hemp was legalized.
