Taking a Dive into What Hemp Growing Does for the Environment

The Inside Out of Hemp Growing

Hemp is also referred to as industrial hemp \’\’and it is one sector of cannabis \’\’and marijuana is the other sector of cannabis. The hemp sector has low levels of THC, 0.3% or less, \’\’and the marijuana sector has high psychoactive levels of THC.  Hemp growing is multiplying at a great rate since the 2018 Farm Bill passed legalizing hemp. The good things about hemp also keep multiplying.

Hemp is Hailed for Health Benefits

This marvel crop of hemp is hailed in today’s world by medical \’\’and non-medical elements as a natural compound that reduces pain \’\’and inflammation.  It wipes out insomnia \’\’and stabilizes anxiety \’\’and panic attacks \’\’and controls conditions that cause seizures. Some have estimated that there are 25,000 different uses of CBD hemp flower medicinally, edibles, clothing \’\’and much more. From the roots to the seeds, even the stem, leaves, the extracted oil, every part of the hemp plant has a utility.

Hemp plants vary in height from 3 feet to 15 feet but most are slender with thick, glossy leaves growing off the central slender stem. Plants complete their entire life cycle within one single growing season \’\’and can reach maturity in a span of three to four months.

The Phytoremediation of Hemp Growing

The knowledge of health benefits of CBD hemp was spreading fast so when the 2018 Farm Bill passed into law legalizing hemp, farmers were ready.  Hemp farmers planted hundreds of acres of hemp to fulfill the exploding market for hemp extracts, hemp flower nugs \’\’and many other things.

Generally speaking, crops deplete the soil so many farmers do rotation planting. This gives the soil a chance to catch up with itself.  Industrial manufacturing also pollutes our environment with chemical-heavy farming practices \’\’and toxic waste sites. The toxins left behind many times are out of control.

Thous\’\’ands of Acres of Hemp Growing Makes a Difference

Now we have thous\’\’ands of acres of hemp growing to help correct an environment problem through the process of phytoremediation. Phytoremediation is only one way that hemp is saving our environment as it is nature’s way of vacuuming toxic chemicals \’\’and heavy metals, out of the soil \’\’and groundwater. Some of referred to hemp growing as the “magic eraser” that cleans up the messes which others have left behind. There are three fundamental ways the process works:

  • Phytoaccumulation — While the hemp growing process happens, the toxins accumulate in the shoots \’\’and leaves of the plant where they are stored until the plant finishes its growth cycle, then it dies \’\’and degrades.
  • Phytovolatilization – The hemp plant absorbs organic contaminants \’\’and pollutants \’\’and releases them through its leaves \’\’and into the air.
  • Phytodegradation – This is when pollutants are metabolized \’\’and destroyed.

Hemp Benefits to the Soil

Recently, many are rediscovering the plethora positive effects that hemp has for people \’\’and the environment.  For years, farmers rotate the crops in order to allow the soil to replenish. If farmers grow multiple crops, hemp growing is an important plant for crop to add to the rotation cycle.  Hemp roots reach deep down into the soil to help prevent erosion \’\’and also to loosen the soil to allow more fragile plants to grow afterward. When the hemp biomass returns to the soil \’\’and decomposes it feeds nutrients back into the ground.

Benefits of Pesticide-Free Hemp Crops

The hemp strains are naturally resistant to insect pests \’\’and predators. As a result, this eliminates the need for pesticides \’\’and supports havens for bees to do their pollination. Hemp growing on acreage, grows quickly so makes an excellent ground cover. This eliminates most of the growth of weeds so, again, it eliminates the need for weed killers. Beside all these valuable positives of hemp growing, it has a high market value for the farmer.

Environmental Impact of Hemp Growing

Another positive impact hemp growing has on the environment is that it is hard \’\’and needs far less water than other industrial crops.  It also grows faster than trees so it provides an alternate to paper production by using hemp.  The more production that comes from hemp moves the world closer to a more sustainable mode of production \’\’and consumption.

“Marvels of Hemp Growing” Last Words

There is one more amazing advantage of hemp growing. Hemp plants pull carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere in a much higher percentage than other plants. The reason for this is because of is large lush supply of foliage. Scientists estimate for every ton of hemp growing there is 1.63 tons of carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere. There is no doubt hemp very truly is the salvation of our environment.

Sharon has been writing her heart out since she was 10 years of age when she wrote up a story about a 3,000 acre forest fire she and her family witnessed. In 1995 when she found herself divorced with a 3-year-old daughter, Ruth, she decided to try writing for money. She carved a niche in the Continuing Education market and for the next 20 plus years she wrote courses for C.E. providers all over the United States. Blogging is now her new love. Particularly suited to writing about CBD because for two years she was crippled with osteoarthritis in her ankles and feet until someone introduced her to CBD. Today she walks and bikes because of this natural compound of CBD.
