Should I extract my own CBD oil is a complicated process which many may feel is not worth the time \’\’and trouble when it can be purchased online or at your local dispensary for a reasonable price. Most would agree with the many but here is the exception. Certain hemp flower strains have particular health benefits that others are not so strong in. If this is the case, then you will be well-served to extract your own CBD oil from that particular hemp flower.

CBD oil, which is made from the leaves, flowers, \’\’and stalks of hemp plants, but mostly the flowers, differs from hemp seed oil or hemp oil.  So today we are talking about CBD oil.  You can easily purchase CBD oil tincture at a variety of locations for a reasonable price, but in the case you are wanting CBD oil from a particularly hemp flower strain, then making your own is probably the way you will want to do that.

Should I Extract My Own CBD Oil – Choose Your Flower \’\’and Terpenes

Terpenes for Pain

  • Myrcene is a terpene with sedative effects that help calm the pain.
  • B-Caryophyllene is a terpene with potent anti-inflammatory effects that help alleviate pain, protect cells \’\’and the digestive tract.
  • A-pinene is anti-inflammatory \’\’and brings relief for chronic pain.
  • Limonene will alleviate anxiety \’\’and depressant effects which can contribute to worsening pain if not calmed.

These are just some suggestions if you particularly are wanting your CBD oil for pain. Read through some of our other blogs for specific flowers \’\’and terpenes for anxiety or cancer, or many other physical ailments.

Should I Extract My Own CBD Oil – The Preparation of it All

Make sure you have a large unobstructed space on our counter to work \’\’and also be sure you have good ventilation to rid the kitchen of unpleasant odors or fumes.

This may not be the easiest DIY project to do, so may sure you dedicate a large portion of a day to get everything together \’\’and so you do not feel pressured to get it finished. Below is a list of ingredients as well as equipment that you will need for your adventure.

  • 3-10 grams of a particular CBD hemp flower
  • 28 grams hemp flower strain with the cannabinoids \’\’and terpenes in it that you are looking for.
  • 450 grams carrier oil of carrier oil like coconut oil, olive oil, or butter
  • A crockpot or double boiler for cooking on low heat
  • Metal mesh strainer
  • Cheesecloth for straining or coffee filter
  • Mixing bowl
  • Glass jar
  • Probe thermometer

Should I Extract My Own CBD Oil – It’s About the Steps

Considering Step 1 – Put your hemp flower in the grinder to reduce to a course-fine consistency but not dust in or to have the best consistency for maximum CBD extraction.

Considering Step 2 – The next process is to decarboxylate the hemp flower. Line a baking tray with parchment paper \’\’and spread the ground-up flowers evenly onto it. Place in an oven heated to 225ºF to bake for an hour. Decarboxylation is to convert the inactive CBDA into active CBD but without losing any of the other natural compounds like the valuable terpenes. It will be lightly brown \’\’and crisp at the end of the 60 minutes.

Considering Step 3 — Next, let’s look at how to mix the flowers \’\’and the oil. That is how the extraction process works. Take your double boiler \’\’and place both the flowers \’\’and the carrier oil in the top of the double boiler.  Then fill the bottom of the double boiler with about half full of water.  Heat ONLY to a simmer. If the simmer passes 150º C, the terpenes will evaporate, \’\’and you do not want this. After about 2–3 hours, you will have a product looking brownish-green.

Considering Step 4 — Carefully remove the top of the double boiler with hemp \’\’and oil from the heated water \’\’and put on potholder on the counter. Place the coffee filter over the top of your dark glass jar. Pour the mixture into the container. Make sure as much drains into your glass jar.  Seal the glass jar \’\’and store in a cool, dry dark place.

Should I Extract My Own CBD Oil – All About Storing It

It is quite a process to make your CBD oil tincture so you want to be sure \’\’and store it properly so that it will last as long as possible.  For optimal results, store your CBD-infused oil in the refrigerator with a clear label on the container in the case more than just you are using that refrigerator.

After you use the CBD oil tincture always re-seal the container \’\’and replace it in the refrigerator as soon as possible. The reason for this is the CBD oil tincture may deteriorate more quickly when exposed to oxygen.

Sharon has been writing her heart out since she was 10 years of age when she wrote up a story about a 3,000 acre forest fire she and her family witnessed. In 1995 when she found herself divorced with a 3-year-old daughter, Ruth, she decided to try writing for money. She carved a niche in the Continuing Education market and for the next 20 plus years she wrote courses for C.E. providers all over the United States. Blogging is now her new love. Particularly suited to writing about CBD because for two years she was crippled with osteoarthritis in her ankles and feet until someone introduced her to CBD. Today she walks and bikes because of this natural compound of CBD.
