The Hemp Flower Trim – In the Beginning

Trimming the hemp flower happens after the flower has matured \’\’and is ready to be harvested. It is also a critical part of the harvesting process because it is important to the consumer on down the way. There is more than one way to accomplish the hemp flower trim which could mean the difference in the price you can sell it to the vendor for.

The hemp farmer must consider volume, scale-ability, human resources, \’\’and other factors to determine what is the best way to accomplish the hemp flower trim of those luscious nugs.  Other factors, such as labor costs \’\’and time frames are important to consider but the bottom line is that you are ultimately looking at what serves the consumer best.

The Hemp Flower Trim – Considering the Machine Trim

Machine trimming takes less time \’\’and less equipment so obviously it costs less which is an attractive feature to many hemp farmers. However, the hemp farmer who has a meticulous eye for details \’\’and is looking out for the consumer down the line, observes that a machine has the potential of removing some of the vital parts of the hemp flower like trichomes. This is where a high content of terpenes reside \’\’and those are important to the total effectiveness of the hemp flower experience for the user.  A machine trims all hemp buds the same rather than looking at the trim bud by bud.

The Hemp Flower Trim – Factoring in the H\’\’and Trim

Then there is the h\’\’and trimming method. This method requires the removing of fan leaves from each bud individually, or by h\’\’and. Although it is certainly time-consuming, this process produces more intact flowers \’\’and thus maximizes the quality of the crop.

So let’s look at the steps to do the hemp flower trim.

#1 — Prepare a clutter-free work area which should include a table \’\’and a holding tray for the trimmed-up flowers.

#2 –With one h\’\’and, hold the entire dried plant upside down to make for easier cutting of the stems with flowers one at a time.

#3 — Place them carefully on a clean surface area by the stem without touching the flower nug.

#4 — Trim the larger fan leaves to expose the bottom of the flower, but do not cut it.

#5 – After the larger leaves are trimmed, hold the hemp flower nug right side up so it is easier to examine the flower \’\’and trim the smaller fan leaves.

#6 – Continue trimming without making any cuts to the flower that could damage it.

#7 – Now to the more precise hemp flower trim because you want to preserve as much of the trichome content as possible. With good view of the flower now, trim smaller leaves even if they have a very small amount of trichome content.

#8 – The last step is to cut off the stem you’ve been holding to within an inch of the flower.

#9 – Place the flower on the tray \’\’and store the trimmed hemp flowers in a low-moisture facility until further processing.

“The Trim” Last

The trimming process is crucial \’\’and the hemp farmer will discover that it is also crucial to the vendor he or she want to sell to \’\’and more importantly it is vitally important to the consumer. The consumer-driven hemp farmer will soon find that the extra time it takes \’\’and the extra manpower is well worth it to all concerned.
