Uses of Biomass Hemp Fiber – The Basics

Hemp biomass includes the sugar leaves, sometimes the stalks, and larger leaves. This means that everything except hemp buds and hemp flower can be “recycled” as biomass.  After determining the exact part of the hemp plant left for biomass, it is milled before extraction. The hemp farmers can figure that an acre has the capacity to produce about 1,500 pounds of biomass. Producers use hemp biomass as fuel, used to extract CBD isolate, CBD distillate or hemp oils, and actually many other things.

Uses of Biomass Hemp Fiber Biomass as Fuel

Hemp is a durable crop because of its versatility and its hardiness. It thrives in all types of soil, in long or short growing seasons, in dry or rainy regions and it even purifies the soil it is grown in without harmful pesticides.  Even what is considered “waste” or biomass of the hemp plant is utilized.

Uses of biomass hemp fiber are keenly important because it is an organic material that goes through the same process of photosynthesis as other plants so absorb the sun’s energy to use as its own. That process turns the great amount of biomass from the hemp plant into a source of renewable energy. Since hemp matures in about four months, the hemp biomass has become a substantial sustainable environmentally friendly fuel alternative.

Bio-coal is created from waste timber or biomass in a process called torrefaction.  Wood may be the most common form of biomass fuel, but hemp biomass is a close second with just as many environmentally safe qualities. Hemp biomass has two ways of becoming fuel – burned as a direct fuel or converted to a liquid biofuel to be then used as a fuel.

Uses of Biomass Hemp Fiber – Biomass for Clothing

Hemp clothing is durable, absorbs moisture easily, and is strong and durable. It also prevents sweating as it allows the body to breathe. Hemp material protects against dust mites, bacteria, and various types of fungus that often get into fabric. Hemp clothing is more suitable for those who suffer from allergies and asthma.

Uses of biomass hemp fiber include the fact that it has antiseptic and wound healing qualities.  This could be significant because when someone has a stubborn wound it is difficult to wear clothes over the wound. The hemp fabric is porous so gives the body the ability to “breathe” during extreme heat when wearing hemp clothing.

Uses of Biomass Hemp Fiber – Biomass for Canvas, Rope, and Beyond

Hemp ropes and hemp canvases have long been used on ships because they are particularly tough and durable against the wiles of the saltwater ocean.  Hemp fibers are bonded together closer making it suitable for anything that needs to be strong and durable. The military has used it in war because of its durability. Uses of biomass hemp fiber include it being UV resistant is also another reason why it is such a durable material and probably why the Army has consistently used the fiber for ropes.

The Last

There is a misconception still on the loose that says hemp clothing is the same as cannabis leaf clothing. FACT CHECK: No it is not. Hemp clothing is from the hemp plant with nothing to do with cannabis marijuana.  Hemp clothing is good for your skin because of the lack of pesticides and chemicals used in fabric production. In fact, some believe that hemp clothing is the most revolutionary clothing in the market today. These are all reasons to get some hemp clothing to hang in your closet which will be soft, tender to your skin, and without chemicals.
