The various types of cannabis oil include hemp seed oil, CBD oil \’\’and cannabis-infused coconut oil \’\’and now massage oils for topical applications. The cannabinoids are all lipophilic which means they are better absorbed with a carrier oil.  The most popular carrier oils are coconut oil, MCT coconut oil, or hemp seed oil. Any of these oils can be used to carry the cannabinoids to the CB receptors of the Endocannabinoid System in the skin.

You can infuse the oil with dried CBD flower or CBD oil concentrate along with other herbs. Remember that you may have sublingual CBD oil tincture in your medicine cabinet, but you can not use it topically. CBD oil for the skin is different than the sublingual oil.

For a strong CBD massage oil, you can use CBD concentrate which contains 500mg of CBD in just 1mL. This means you do not have to add a lot of volume in order to have a potent CBD massage oil.

CBD isolate is often used to create infused oil like CBD massage oil. That is because it dissolves well in carrier oils, contains no THC, \’\’and is odorless, allowing other essential oil scents to shine through. But remember, you will not have the advantage of having all the cannabinoids working together with all the terpenes \’\’and other natural compounds.  Yes, it is called the Entourage Effect. The full spectrum CBD oil will give you the full power of this wonderful natural compound.

Directions for Mixing

Here are a few essential oils you can select:

  • Orange oil
  • Lavender oil
  • Rose oil
  • Frankincense oil

Combine all the ingredients in a double boiler so that the carrier oil can start infusing with the CBD. Maintain a low heat \’\’and stir so that all the ingredients can merge with one another. Just be sure that your infused massage oil is under 240° when you add the CBD oil or concentrate. When it is thoroughly mixed \’\’and heated, remove from the heat \’\’and allow to cool slightly.

When cooled, transfer to a dark glass container for storage. Before each use shake well, particular if you have made it with decarboxylate CBD flower.
