  • Indica-dominant hemp strains promote deep body relaxation.
  • Sativa-dominant hemp strains lend itself to an energizing experience.
  • Hybrid hemp

Shape — Indica nugs are usually round and dense; sativa nugs are more oblong or oval and lighter in density.

Color — Indica buds are usually a darker green with some purple, orange hairs and just a touch of yellow.  Sativa nugs are notably green with an abundance of orange hairs that have a touch of yellow..

Aroma — Indica nugs are more sweet to the nose and slightly of pine. Sativa nugs take on the aroma of fruit, gas haze.

Taste —  Indica lands on the palate with a bit of spice and cream. Sativa buds taste more of fruity and candy.

Indica-Dominant Hemp

Indica plants are short, bushy plants with wide leaves but that is only about the physical appearance of the hemp plant.  These plants generally grow faster, and the flower produces more. One of the most interesting facts is that Indica hemp plants have a higher CBD content and also a lower THC content.

The major qualities of Indica medicinal strains include increased mental and muscle relaxation while also decreasing acute pain. Indica-dominant strains do not produce a high, but it does stimulate dopamine which is a neurotransmitter regulating the brains pleasure control board.  Some cancer patients utilize indica-dominant hemp flower to decrease nausea and stimulate appetite. It is also good for a restful night of sleep.

  • Northern Lights

Sativa-Dominant Hemp

Sativa plants, opposite to the Indica strains, grow tall and thin with narrow leaves which are of a lighter shade of green. Sativa strains mature at a slower pace and generally require more light, whether natural or artificial.  Sativa-dominant hemp strains produce higher yields of THC and lower CBD so are not as useful medicinally.

Sativa-dominant strains include will help ease anxiety, depression and a mood up-lifter. It also treats chronic pain rather than acute pain like indica-dominant strains do.  These strains are also beneficial in increased focus and creativity. It is definitely for daytime use.

Hybrid Hemp Strains

Hybrids result from a cross between two other strains. The strains may be both sativa or they may be both indica. There are three other hybrid possibilities. They are as follows:

50% sativa and 50% indica,

Lower % sativa and higher % indica – Indica-dominant,

Higher % sativa and lower % indica – Sativa-dominant,

Indica vs Sativa vs Hybrid

Charlotte’s Web is an example of an Indica-dominant hemp strain.

Other examples are:

CB Dawg,

Moon Rock Asteroids,

Cherry Blossom

Indica vs. Sativa vs. Hybrid — Sativa-Dominant Strains

Harlequin is an example of a Sativa-dominant hemp strain.

Other examples are:

ACDC hemp strain,

Elektra hemp strain,

Hawaiian Haze hemp strain.

When the hybrid hemp strain is 50%/50%, the result may be a blend of energizing effects and calming effects. Even though 50%/50%, one of the sativa or indica may dominate. The effect, as mentioned before, may be different for each individual. Another variable is the delivery method. If the method of delivery is to smoke, the taste may be different than if you vape it.
